Machine-speed arbitrage on unverified supply. Agents programmed to identify supply paths where verification is weak concentrate spend there. Reduced verification means less competition from quality-focused buyer agents, which means lower CPMs. The agent exploits the gap between what it pays for inventory and what the fraudulent supply path costs to create. This inverts supply path optimization: instead of optimizing toward verified supply, the agent optimizes toward unverified supply because it's cheaper.

Phantom agent networks. Coordinated networks of buyer agents that appear independent but are controlled by one entity. Each agent looks like a separate buyer from a different advertiser. The coordination is invisible without cross-advertiser agent identity verification.

Supply-side agent injection. Fake seller agents inserted into supply paths as intermediaries, collecting fees without providing value. The schain can document nodes, but it has no mechanism to verify that the agent controlling a node is legitimately authorized to be there.

These aren't hypothetical. They're structural consequences of removing humans from transaction decisions while the verification infrastructure remains human-era.

What This Means for Publishers

The practical takeaway is counterintuitive: AI agents don't make supply chain hygiene less important. They make it the single most important factor in whether you capture premium demand.

Verified Supply Wins Disproportionately

When human media planners evaluate supply, they balance verification signals against relationships, past performance, content quality, and institutional knowledge. A publisher with a few verification issues but great content might still win the buy.

Agents are more binary. The verification check is the first filter, applied at machine speed to every bid opportunity. Publishers that pass get evaluated further. Publishers that fail get skipped. There's no second chance, no relationship override, no "let me check with the publisher."

This means the gap between verified and unverified inventory widens. Verified publishers capture more of the agentic spend. Unverified publishers capture less.
